Georges St Pierre VS Matt Serra

Damn! In three fights GSP has proved without a shadow of doubt that he must join Anderson Silva in the elite of MMA. Serra was dispatched like a stepping-stone, the two didn’t even look in the same league, and GSP proved just how much the first fight was just a one off.

What impressed me more than anything about ‘Rush’s’ performance, was his completeness as a fighter, the complex array of talent he displayed, so fluently and carelessly, in a way that any fighter would struggle to handle with. Strikes, takedowns, ground and pound, it all looked so marvellous, it should be shown to any man who still regards MMA as human ‘cock-fighting’.

Matt Serra has the possibility of Matt Hughes to look forward to, and hopefully for GSP, Jon Fitch will be waiting in the wings. After that performance, however much I love Fitch, he has got it all to do should that bout ever come around.

Well-done GSP.

Rich Franklin VS Travis Lutter

Rich was impressive, smart game plan, acute skills, and perfectly executed, he dispatched of the lacklustre Lutter.

Rich said correctly in the post fight, he is only looking to his next opponent, and with Anderson Silva as champion that’s probably best for the Cincinnati man.

Lutter was a huge disappointment, for someone who talked a lot in the pre-fight banter; to perform like that was truly laughable. To be fighting in the UFC for as long as he has been, to not be able to prepare yourself properly bares no excuse. He barely made it out of the first round he was so tired. Again Lutter showed everyone he has the physical talent, but not the mental strength to become the best in his division.

Not much to look forward to from Lutter’s end of the table but another solid victory from Franklin, congratulations.

Nate Quarry VS Kalib Starnes

I am officially starting a petition to get Kalib out of the UFC. I hate to say it about anyone but this fighter has disappointed me every fight I have seen him in, and I am shocked to still see the man fighting, especially on a main-card.

From quitting against Kendall Groves, to lying on Chris Leban for three rounds, to Belcher letting Starnes hit him freely for about 10seconds, it was no surprise that this fight was no different. Kalib Starnes refused to fight for fifteen minutes, it was an utter embarrassment and will hopefully put an end to his UFC career.

Nate Quarry on the other hand, really needs his own reality TV show, the guy is hilarious, he is so robotic in looks and action, but has a really blunt sense of humour which makes him hugely amusing. His running man and then punching technique to mock Kalib late in the fight was a stoke of genius, it was through no fault of his own the fight was a poor one, his striking looked crisp, his actions fluid and he constantly came forward, I was thoroughly impressed.

To add insult, Nate stole the show with a brilliant Rocky IV quote as he won over the Montréal fans, who were playing around with cheers and boos as the respective fighters came on to the big screen.

Michael Bisping VS Charles McCarthy

Just to get it out from the start, McCarthy’s actions around and in this fight were truly disgusting. I thought the pre-fight was expected; the banter and chat, likewise his actions at the weigh-in could be defended. But I thought the way he acted within the octagon was terrible mocking Bisping constantly after his attacks. Which is all the more reason why when Bisping TKO’d his a** I was over the moon, and too why Charles quickly ran over to apologise after the fight.

Bisping looked great, he was quick, agile and aggressive. To me Bisping at 205lbs was a good solid chunk of clay, at 185lbs; the man is a huge, terrifying sculpture. He looks far more the finished article, far more the total fighter then he ever was at 205lbs. The finish was excellent, ala Liddell, Ortiz one, when a series of unanswered blows through a covering opponent led them to collapse to the ground.

A small scare early in the round with Charles’ arm-bar attempted, Bisping battled out and from then on looked unbeatable. Knees, kicks and accurate strikes ended McCarthy’s night before he could back up any of his smack, I for one was not missing out.

One negative point on England’s side is how long the fight was aloud to go on for; I was truly shocked when the official was ready to allow for a second round.

Well Done Bisping!! Who’s next for the Brit!!

Mac Danzig VS Mark Bocek

Point one: I was wrong, Bocek was no walkover, I underestimated him greatly, he was a true warrior, caused Mac several problems and I will look forward to seeing him again.

That aside Danzig looked good, still someway off the top dogs in the division however, he looked on good form and let his experience tell as he systematically dismantled Bocek. Good performance lets see more from him please.
