Bisping To Face Day Of Doom PDF  | Print |
Posted by Rob Curry

Following Chris Leben's withdraw from his Middleweight bout against Michael Bisping at UFC 85: Bedlam, a replacement has been found, as we all expected, in the form of Canadian fighter Jason "Dooms" Day.

Day (17-5-0) steps into the Octagon following 5 straight wins, the most recent at UFC 83: Serra Vs. St Pierre 2, where he defeated Alan Belcher via TKO in the 1st .

The announcement was made on UFC.com:

"Obviously I was looking forward to the Leben fight but I guess it wasn't to be,” said Bisping. "You have to respect Jason Day for stepping in on even shorter notice than myself. I am looking forward to really putting on a great performance in London."

“I love this fight,” said Day. “Everybody’s been asking me who would I like to fight next, and I said Bisping, but who would have thought it would have come about so quickly. He’s a great fighter, an exciting fighter, tough as nails, and everybody wants that marquee fight where you get the guy that tests you and you slug it out for two or three rounds. I think he’s a pretty good test for me.”

Leben Out For "The Count" PDF  | Print |
Posted by Rob Curry
UFC Middleweight Chris Leben has been sentenced to 35 days in Jail by Clackamas County Circuit Court, Oregon. Leben gave him self up to officials last week after violating his probation terms, which he received following his arrest for a DUI (Driving under the influence) back in 2005.

Leben handed himself in after realising that he would require a visa to fly to England for his coming bout against Mike "The Count" Bisping at UFC 85: Bedlam on June 7th.

Court officials have advised that Leben will not be released before 9.00am on the 27th May, this just gave Leben under 2 weeks to prepare, and as a result it is rumoured that the UFC have cancelled the fight, although the bout still remains on the UFC site for now.

I believe that a replacement will be found for "The Count" to face, as a home turf fight for Bisping is a massive crowd draw for UFC fans in the U.K. so watch this space..

The Fight Site’s Farewell To (UFC Legend) Kalib Starnes PDF  | Print |
Posted by Sam Wilson
My petition to rid MMA of Kalib Starnes was clearly short lived, as Dana White needed no one else, to emphasise the fact that Starnes is not UFC material, and will never be close to what they need.

To the huge relief of MMA fans across the globe Starnes can now be forgotten as just another fighter that didn’t make it.

But for humours sake, let’s take a look back at the illustrious career of the fighter that never really fought.

It all began on the Ultimate Fighter Three show where Kalib first for Ken Shamrocks team, dispatched of the immense talent of a guy whose name I can’t care to remember (lucky for Kalib the guy couldn’t fight).

But well done Kalib through to the semis, and an early favourite for the show. Following that Kalib trained as if he had tied up the contract already, and wearing those ridiculous glasses, was just a number of things that showed he was ready for UFC combat (a tad of sarcasm). It showed in the semi final against Kendall Groves as Kalib tapped out verbally at the beginning of the second round; the cause was a pain in his ribs, a pain I say! Any real warrior would have done the same surely.

In the shows finale Kalib stepped up against an outstanding character of Danny Abbadi, in an all out war, Kalib battled another Ultimate Fighter reject, and finished emphatically proving to all he was championship material…. which championship is hard to say. After this fight Kalib really showed his true colours coming into his own with a TKO loss to Okami and a lay and pray victory against Chris Leben.

After that monumental victory Dana challenged Starnes with Belcher, who made Kalib look like a laughing stock, but luckily for our hero he was able to escape the fight early due to a cut on the top of his head.

Thanks to this cut, Kalib still got his comeback shot against Quarry at UFC 83. Kalib, who loves to test his fans patience to his true warrior ability, took it to unbelievable levels displaying his stamina and running abilities in a fascinating display of fear for his safety. After the fight Starnes decided he had conquered the MMA world and had proved all he had needed.

So what now for Starnes I for one have thought of a number of job opportunities for the UFC legend (or not).

Job 1: Marathon Runner
As Nate Quarry will tell you Kalib is an amazing athlete, he can run away from anything, if you tell Starnes he has Chuck Liddell behind him ready to knock him out, my money is on him to take the race by a country mile.

Job 2: Pro Wrestler
Kalib could actually be the most successful pro wrestler around, he could actually use his skills of not actually doing any damage to an opponent could be effective in the pretend wrestling scene. He could actually then use his ‘heavy’ hands, missing and causing no pain would make him a fan favourite.

Job 3: Banker
I don’t know about this one yet, but without a job now, Starnes is going to have to learn to be very good with his money, start counting your pennies and you could find yourself behind a till Kalib.

There just a few of our ideas, Kalib has several options so good luck to him.

From the world of MMA, let’s thank Dana White for stopping Kalib Starnes from fighting anymore in the UFC.

Charles McCarthy Retires From MMA PDF  | Print |
Posted by Rob Curry
Charles McCarthy has announced his formal retirement from MMA competition, McCarthy made the decision following a TKO loss to Michael Bisping at UFC 83: Serra Vs. St Pierre, in a statement "Chainsaw" said:

“I would like to announce my formal retirement from Mixed Martial Arts competition..........
............I have achieved many of the goals I set out to accomplish in this sport and found others just out of reach. It is now time for me to lay down my gloves and rededicate my attention towards my business, my fighters, my family and my team..............
............The successes I have found in my career are due in large part to all the great people who have helped me along the way. Being involved with the true champions at American Top Team has guided me to become a better father, husband, teacher and friend. Without the great generosity of ATT my life would have had a void. I hope that everyone reading can one day feel the love of a great family as I have.”

We wish McCarthy all the best for the future.

Starnes Loses UFC Contract PDF  | Print |
Posted by Rob Curry
Following his comical appearance against Nate “The Rock” Quarry at UFC 83: Serra Vs. St Pierre, Kalib Starnes has been released of his UFC contract.

Speaking of Starnes UFC President Dana White said:

"He just doesn’t belong in the UFC and after his performance the other night, he should consider a new line of work,"

Quarry also commented on the fight:
"I think if you're fighting in the UFC, you've got to come to fight.....I would much rather get knocked out than lose a decision running backwards. No disrespect to Kalib. I know the stress really gets to you. A lot of guys, they focus on not wanting to lose instead of wanting to win. I didn't mean to disrespect him in any way. I just got frustrated because you can't fight when somebody's moving backward that fast."Following his comical appearance against Nate “The Rock” Quarry at UFC 83: Serra Vs. St Pierre, Kalib Starnes has been released of his UFC contract. Speaking of Starnes UFC President Dana White said: "He just doesn’t belong in the UFC and after his performance the other night, he should consider a new line of work,"

UFC 83 Recap PDF  | Print |
Posted by Sam Wilson
Georges St Pierre VS Matt Serra

Damn! In three fights GSP has proved without a shadow of doubt that he must join Anderson Silva in the elite of MMA. Serra was dispatched like a stepping-stone, the two didn’t even look in the same league, and GSP proved just how much the first fight was just a one off.

What impressed me more than anything about ‘Rush’s’ performance, was his completeness as a fighter, the complex array of talent he displayed, so fluently and carelessly, in a way that any fighter would struggle to handle with. Strikes, takedowns, ground and pound, it all looked so marvellous, it should be shown to any man who still regards MMA as human ‘cock-fighting’.

Matt Serra has the possibility of Matt Hughes to look forward to, and hopefully for GSP, Jon Fitch will be waiting in the wings. After that performance, however much I love Fitch, he has got it all to do should that bout ever come around.

Well-done GSP.
