Video: TUF 7: Dan Simmler KO And After Thought PDF  | Print |
Posted by Rob Curry

Simmler:

"So, I have a deviated septum in my nose, cant breath good at all with out a breath right strip, I had one on and right before my fight, I was told I couldnt wear it. I wasnt given a good reason, just that I couldnt, so as a result, I was breathing through my mouth the whole time, that just made things worse when I got hit. My mouth was wide open and I broke my jaw in three places. two on the left, one on the right. It was very painful to say the least."

"One week after I got home to the day I decided I was going to train “Light” with a student, and I took his back and he pushed off and his head smashed me under the jaw with the back of his head, rebreaking the jaw. The hostpital is literally across the street from the school and I was kept over night and had surgery the next day. They put two small plates, 4 screws and wires back to keep it shut. For a little over 7 weeks I had nothing but shakes and tomato soup. It was horrible. I lost about 20 lbs and now I am waiting to get the ok to spar and get back to the grind. Ill be back and do better."

TUF 8 Already In Motion PDF  | Print |
Posted by Rob Curry

Two weeks after the start of the Seventh season of UFC's The Ultimate Fighter Reality Show, and the try-outs for the Eighth season are already under way.
Over 250 Lightweights and Lightheavyweights descended on the Sheraton Boston Hotel, Boston, USA, to take a shot at impressing UFC president Dana White and  Executive Producer Craig Piligian amongst other execs from Spike TV.

The day involved each fighter displaying all aspects of their fight game, from ground work to striking, and also involved on camera interviews to asses their on screen appeal.

In attendance were Kenny Florian and Gabriel Gonzaga, also current TUF 7 contestants Matt Riddle and Dan Cramer came to show their support.

Although the fighters who attended the try-outs were Lightweights and Lightheavyweights, many would ask the question why does the UFC need more fighters in these weight categories? why not help bolster a division that is in need of it? As they have done with this season using only middleweights, but as we have seen with this season, you don't really know what's going to happen until it happens on The Ultimate Fighter, we'll keep you posted with all the developments on this Eighth Seaso, as well as all the news and results from the already excellent Seventh season.

TUF 7 Double Trouble? PDF  | Print |
Posted by Rob Curry

Rumours are surfacing that one of the big shake ups that Dana White has been predicting for The Ultimate Fighter Season 7 is the number of cast members, instead of the traditional 16, it is believed that the cast will be a whopping 32, this must surely mean an increase in frequency of fights per episode as the UFC's people have probably already worked out:

More People In 1 House = More Friction/Drama

The (Rumoured) Cast so far is as follows:

  • Paul Bradley
  • Matt Brown
  • Steve Byrnes
  • Timothy Credeur
  • CB Dollaway
  • Josh Hall
  • Mike Marrello
  • Prince Mclean
  • Aaron Meisner
  • Dave Mewborn
  • Jeremiah Riggs
  • Dante Rivera
  • David Roberts
  • Amir Sadollah
  • Brandon Sene
  • Dan Simmler
  • Jesse Taylor
  • Luke Zachrich

This season, if the rumours are true could be the best yet and we'll certainly be following all the events in the house and the Octagon, as they happen!

It is not currenty known who else will compete in the UFC's popular reality show and no confirmation has been made by the UFC of Meisner's involvement, but we do know that the coaches of season 7 are UFC Leight Heavyweight Champ Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and Forrest Griffin, Dana White also annonced that TUF 7 will have  "big changes in store".

Only time will tell as to what "changes" we will see in the latest incarnation of the show, but continual reinvention of the show are a result of a decline in ratings of the groundbreaking MMA show.

Ooh it’s the penultimate fights before the final people!!  The semi final fights in this episode are between Mac Danzig from Team Hughes and Matt Arroyo from Team Serra followed by Tommy Speer (Team Hughes) vs George Sotiropoulos (Team Serra).

We get some thoughts from Mac about his upcoming fight and he says that he is not taking Matt lightly and that he considers him to be in the top three out of the house. Matt says that he likes his chances as the underdog as he feels that there is no pressure on him to win.

During Team Serra practise Matt gets injured when Richie Hightower lands on top of Matt during a training drill and injures his rib. Matt says that every time he breaths it feels like he is being stabbed in the lungs. Matt see’s the doctor who confirms that he has a slight crack in his rib along with some minor bruises. Matt now has to decide if he either throws in the towel or fights in the semi’s injured.

The next day Matt arranges a meeting with Serra to tell him that after much thought he is going to withdraw from the semi’s. He says that the injury is affecting his breathing and also his ability to fight so he feels that he can’t go on. Serra accepts the decision and goes to break the news to Dana. Dana goes to see Matt immediately and tries to convince him to reconsider his decision, despite Dana’s best efforts, Matt won’t change his mind. Dana says that he was surprised with Matt’s decision to withdraw as he is a great fighter and not a quitter so he was shocked to see him give up so easily.

So with Matt out of the semi’s a replacement is needed and Dana and Matt Serra evaluate Serra’s team to see if they can choose someone to fight. Jon, Troy, Richie and John are all gathered and spoken to and each is asked if they would like to fight Mac. Ben isn’t considered as he suffered injuries last week from his fight with Tommy. Dana becomes a bit nervous as neither Richie (quelle surprise), War Machine and Troy all seem reluctant to fight Mac. Luckily John Kolosci pretty much waltzes in and demands to fight Mac! Dana agrees and John is given the chance for a rematch against Mac!

John tells Mac that he is going to be fighting him in the semi’s and Mac congratulates him but later admits that he doesn’t agree with giving John another chance against him as he has already beat the guy once!

Fight day comes and John appears cool, calm and relaxed whereas Mac admits to being a little nervous. He explains that he is going to have to do things differently since John will be aware of what he needs to do differently to avoid making the same mistakes he made in their first clash.

Fight 1

Mac Danzig (Team Hughes) vs John Kolosci (Team Serra)

Round 1 – The fight starts with John throwing a bunch of high and low leg kicks but they don’t seem to cause Mac too much problems. John continues to throw kicks towards Mac and eventually he throws a Kick at John which John catches. Mac manages to find his balance and clinches onto John. Mac then throws some uppercuts and then goes low to secure a single leg. Both exchange knees whilst in the clinch and Mac manages to get onto John’s back. Mac manages to then get a Rear Naked Choke and forces John to tap.

Winner– Mac Danzig by submission

So with one finalist decided we get to look at Tommy and George now! Tommy says that he plans on using his size and strength to bully George around, Hughes believes that if Tommy manages to catch George with his right hand then that will end the fight.

At the Team Hughes training session Tommy prepares for the fight by concentrating on escaping submissions as he has been caught  with them in both his fights but they are concerned that if George manages to get him then he will finish him.

On the day of the fight George says that he is confident that he is going to be victorious in the fight as he has more skill than Tommy. Dana pretty much agrees and says that although Tommy is a tough kid, he thinks that George has the edge.

Before the fight Tommy says that he is going out with the aim of finishing this fight!

Fight 2

Tommy Speers (Team Hughes) vs George Sotiropoulos

Round 1 – Both guys seem to circle round each other feeling each other out, it becomes apparent that Tommy is looking to set up a heavy right hand and George is warned by his corner to be wary of Tommy’s right hand.  Tommy throws several jabs but George manages to outmanouver them. Tommy eventually leads with a left jab and then closes in and clinches onto George’s head. George manages to circle his head out of danger. Several more attempts are made by Tommy to do the same but George manages to circle out. Tommy appears to gets frustrated and rushes in on George in an attempt to get hold of his head. Unfortunately Tommy accidentally pokes him in the eye and Big John McCarthy calls a halt whilst the physician examines George. After he is given the go ahead, George says he is ready to go, Serra reminds him that he is entitles to more time but George wants to continue straight away.

As the fight resumes, George can be seen to be squintin from his left eye and just moments later Tommy lands a straight right that causes George to back away. Tommy then rushes in, circles left and lands a massive right hand that drops George to the ground. Sensing the end of the fight is nead, Tommy unleashes a fury of ground n pounds to George, knocking him out cold. Big John stops the fight and Tommy is declared winner!

Winner – Tommy Speers by TKO

And so we have our final … (unfortunately it’s a Team Hughes one) but I am actually quite excited bout this, I want to see if Tommy can outstrong Mac or if Mac just is superior to the whole lot of them!  Bring on Sunday!!!!!!
