Sneak Peak At "Strikeforce on NBC" Available Online PDF  | Print |
Posted by Strikeforce Press Release
SAN JOSE, Calif. — A minute and a half preview of “Strikeforce on NBC,” the 52-week mixed Martial Arts series that premieres from 2-2:30 a.m. ET tomorrow on NBC, is available for viewing at NBC Sports Online as well as on the official Strikeforce homepage.

“Strikeforce on NBC” marks the debut of mixed martial arts programming on network television in The United States.  The series will include fighter profiles as well as Strikeforce bouts and highlights.

Tomorrow’s historic, premiere episode will be highlighted by a feature segment on newly crowned Strikeforce World Middleweight (185 lb. limit) Champion, Cung Le.  The battle between Le and longtime rival, Brian “Unbreakable” Warren, as well as the classic, barnburner fight between Knockout artist Duane “Bang” Ludwig and rival 170 lb. warrior Tony “The Freak” Fryklund will also air tomorrow night.

"Strikeforce on NBC" represents the latest addition to the network’s traditionally first-class late night programming lineup, arguably best defined by “Saturday Night Live,” the award-winning variety show in the midst of its 33rd season.  “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” and “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” have consistently ranked number one in their respective weeknight time slots for nearly the last decade and a half.

James Thompson Vs. Kimbo Slice : Quick Look PDF  | Print |
Posted by Sam Wilson
Bravo, Bravo, Bravo.

This is a true gem from the matchmakers. OK, it wont be a long fight, and if an epic is what your looking for, this is not for you, but if you love a fast paced battle, with someone going to sleep, and quick, this fight is simply ideal.

Both with street backgrounds, both fighting there way to becoming huge fan favourites, due to their attacking style, aggressive natures and heavy hands, this fight simply has to be a must see for MMA fans.

Thompson renowned for his ‘gong and dash’ technique, will test Kimbo in this bout, he can punch, and punch hard. Although losing several fights due to his erratic nature, James always poses a threat due to the sheer amount of power punches he throws, any of which would put most, including Slice to bed.

Slice yet to be tested in an MMA bout, has shown several skills since his conversion to sanctioned fighting, and will look to further enhance his reputation in the sport. Kimbo has potential in MMA and with Bas Rutten by his side could go far, but he will have to overcome Thompson, which will be no easy feat.

How do you train for a man like Thompson, there is no way you can find sparring partners that will attack the way James will as soon as he hears the bell, its all about how Slice can react, adapt and push ‘The Colossus’ back.

Will the fight end in the first round, probably, will it finish via KO, probably, will it be an action packed fight that leaves all fans watching wanting more, defiantly.

EliteXC and CBS are on to a gem with this main event that will prove a true poster for the huge excitement MMA can provide, if not its full array of skills.

I just can’t wait!

Strikeforce Shatters Live Gate Records In Washington State PDF  | Print |
Posted by Strikeforce Press Release
TACOMA, WA.—With a live audience of 7,089 at Tacoma Dome on Saturday, February 23rd, “Strikeforce At The Dome” surpassed the dollar amount grossed by any Boxing, mixed Martial Arts, or kickboxing gate in Washington State history.

“It’s an honor that the people in the Tacoma and Seattle area welcomed us with such open arms our first time there,” said Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker.  “The public’s embracement of the event is evidence of its hunger to see a big mixed martial arts fight card live as well as its true understanding of the sport.”

During the live HDNet telecast of “Strikeforce At The Dome,” fans witnessed the transformation of Cory “The One” Devela (8-1) from local hero to national star as the 23-year-old Bonney Lake, Washington native and former junior college wrestling standout stopped Joe “Diesel” Riggs (27-10) with a textbook judo throw that rendered the far more experienced competitor on his back and unable to continue the contest.

Former UFC and K-1 North America Champion, Maurice Smith (74-20-4), also shined in front of his hometown fans as he quickly submitted fellow kickboxing legend, Rick “The Jet” Roufus (57-8) with an Armlock at the 1:53 mark of the fight’s opening round.

Bodog Fight was the event’s Presenting Sponsor.

TACOMA, WA.—In a classic clash of styles, World Muay Thai Champion, Duane “Bang” Ludwig (16-7), will be challenged by the ground fighting expertise of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu ace, Steve “The Red Nosed Pit Bull” Berger (20-17-2), in a 170 lb. limit matchup during “Strikeforce At The Dome” at Tacoma, Washington’s Tacoma Dome on Saturday, February 23rd.

Ludwig’s February 23rd start will be his fifth under the Strikeforce umbrella.  In his fourth effort with the mega-promotion, the Denver, Colorado native was stopped by an explosive Paul “Semtex” Daly.
