A Quick Look into Tim Sylvia Vs. Fedor Emelianenko PDF  | Print |
Posted by Sam Wilson
Both fighters have  yet to put pen to paper on this one, but sources say that the deal is very close to completion.

Two of the ‘top heavyweights’ in the world are expected to collide on July 19th under Mark Cubans HDnet fight promotion. Three years ago this bout would have been colossal, both champions, both destroying opponents emphatically, both top of their game.

Today is a different story Fedor hasn’t fought a man of particular note (no offence) for three years. So although on paper he should be soaring into his best years right about now, there are many who doubt his ability, as well as his championship quality. Sylvia without beating around the subject has proved over the last few years, he is no longer a stand out heavyweight, losing two of his last three bouts, and failing to finish a fight in his last five attempts.

But this in its entirety adds so much more to the fight then it would have all those years ago. Although not fighting each other to prove who is the best from their respective organisations, they fight to prove their worth. Emelianenko surely will want to come back with a bang, show the whole world he has lost nothing fighting lesser opponents, and is still the best heavyweight around. Sylvia, by beating Fedor, will crush the Russian, prove he is past it, and allow Sylvia to move up in the rankings.

HDNet Fights And The XFL Team Up To Highlight MMA In Oklahoma PDF  | Print |
Posted by HDNet Fights Press Release
DALLAS - (February 21, 2008) HDNet Fights announced today that it is teaming with the Xtreme Fighting League for the upcoming "HDNet Fights Presents: Xtreme Fighting League" on March 15 at the Expo Square Pavilion in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The event will air live, exclusively on HDNet. This announcement is the latest is a series of new partnerships formed between HDNet Fights and many mixed Martial Arts organizations around the country and in Canada.

For the event, Team Takedown will send three of its fighters - and Oklahoma wrestling legends: Jake Rosholt, Johny Hendricks and Shane Roller. All are alumni of Oklahoma State University, so it won't be too much of a stretch to hope for a partisan crowd. In addition, the remainder of the card will feature additional Oklahoma-based talent and young athletes from Osaka, Japan.

Team Takedown is a fighter management company based out of Texas. It is known for the unconventional method of putting fighters on salary, allowing them to focus on training full-time. In addition, its fighters are making the transition from all-star wrestlers to mixed martial arts athletes.

Couture To Fight For HDNet Fights PDF  | Print |
Posted by Rob Curry
Following HDNet Fights lawsuit against Zuffa LLC (UFC's Parent Company) it has emerged that Mark Cuban's organisation have agreed a contract with Randy Couture, the contract with HDNet will commence following the expiration of his current contract with the UFC / Zuffa.

The current legal action seeks to get clarification on the end date of Coutures contract, and also alleges that the clause that currently prevents Couture from fighting is illegal and that "law in Texas is clear that indefinite employment restrictions such as Zuffa claims to be enforcing are per se illegal and against public policy."

Once Couture is able to fight again it is believed that a match up between Couture and Fedor Emelianenko will be arranged.

Mayweather To Join HDNet Fights PDF  | Print |
Posted by Rob Curry

Reports are surfacing that Super Lightweight boxer "Pretty Boy" Floyd Mayweather is considering the move from Boxing to Mixed Martial Arts, the rumours point to Mayweather working with HDNet Fights after his recent association with HDNet Fights owner Mark Cuban, Cuban and Mayweather reportedly met last week to discuss working together and the possibility of Mayweather competing in a future HDNet Fights event.

This news is a u-turn for Mayweather after disrespecting MMA earlier in the year whilst promoting his bout against Oscar De La Hoya, Mayweather said: "UFC ain't shit........ It ain't but a fad. Anyone can put a tattoo on their head and get in a street fight." these comments certainly got a reaction with UFC president Dana

"(He said) he'd pay a million dollars if Chuck could hang with a heavyweight boxer," White said  "How about if he pays a million dollars to see if a heavyweight boxer can fight MMA with Chuck Liddell? Or, even better, I'll put up a million dollars of my own money if Floyd Mayweather can sell more than 10 tickets without Oscar De La Hoya."

Mark Cuban speaking to ESPN.com on Saturday said:

"Floyd is considering fighting with HDNet Fights,...... We are going to let him visit some gyms to talk to some folks about what it would take to learn. He knows it won't be easy. But he is getting involved with MMA and HDNet Fights one way or another."

Several accomplished Boxers such as Ray Mercer and Frans Botha have in the past attempted the transition to MMA without much success, so it will be interesting to see what, if any success Mayweather will have, either way his association with MMA will almost certainly boost the profile of the sport.

Posted by HDNet Fights
DALLAS, TEXAS --- Sean Salmon's misfortune of getting stopped last Friday night has now opened the door for Jason "Mayhem" Miller's shot at revenge against IFL Standout and Chuck Liddell protégé, Tim Kennedy.

Salmon was scheduled to battle Miller in the co-main event on the HDNet FIGHTS, December 15th event at Dallas' American Airlines Center. But something happened on the way to their showdown. This past Friday night, Salmon was knocked out (1st round, jumping knee) by Jorge Santiago, resulting in his suspension and withdrawal from the Dec. 15th fight with Miller.

Exit Salmon, enter Kennedy and the rematch that Miller has so eagerly wanted since dropping a disputed decision to Kennedy, in 2003.
