Is UFC Judging Flawed? PDF  | Print |
Posted by Rob Curry
Following the overwhelming reaction following Michael bisping and Matt Hamill's bout at UFC 75: Champion Vs. Champion on Saturday many stories and rumours are doing the rounds, Was it fixed?, do UFC fix matches? Why did Bisping win? all of these questions are being asked all around the net as well as the most important question of all, is the MMA/UFC judging process working properly? or is it time UFC and the other organisations re-think the judging process.

Michael Bisping won at UFC 75 but the overwhelming opinion throughout MMA fans worldwide is that he did not win, UFC President Dana White has even stated that he believed Hamill the victor in their match up, so why was Bisping declared the winner?

Many suggest that a 10 point scoring system is not suitable for MMA and that an alternate system be introduced, i mean how can a third of the judges score a fight 100% to one fighter and the other two judges score the fight in favour of the other, are they watching the same fight? If so how do their scores differ so much?
If a 10 point system isn't working what system do we introduce? What system will work??

Another view is that judges need to stick to their convictions and make unpopular decisions, no matter what the outcome of those decisions, as long as its the right decision then that's all that matters isn't it?
Maybe Bisping got bonus points for being the native but surely the reaction of the crowd after the decision was announced tells you that that's not what fans want.

Whatever your view of Bisping / Hamill the one thing that has come to light is that Judging is presenting us with some dodgy decisions, especially when one judge can score a fight so differently than the others, its time for things to change and the UFC have to be the ones to do it.
