Press Release: EliteXC Re-signs Jake Shields
Written by EliteXC
Corpus Christi, Tex. (Nov. 9, 2007) – The decision, it turns out, was a no-brainer. In fact, one would be hard-pressed to even call it a decision.

“The plan was always to stay with EliteXC,’’ said Jake Shields, who has re-signed with Los Angeles-based ProElite’s Live Fight Division. “For some reason, reporters were running like crazy with the notion that I was going to leave and sign with some other organization.

“I talked with other groups, but, in the end, I decided the best thing for me and my career was to stay put. I have been happy with EliteXC from the beginning. They have been like family to me.’’
Shields (jakeshields.proelite.com), of San Francisco, is 19-4-1. Undefeated since 2004, the Cesar Gracie protégé’s eight-fight winning streak is one of the longest currently in MMA.

Cro-Cop Back On U.K. Soil?
Written by Rob Curry

In a recent interview Mirko "Cro Cop" has stated: "I think my next fight is going to happen in January"
Meaning that he may appear on the card at UFC 80 in Newcastle, U.K.Mirko Cro-Cop

Unless the UFC schedules and event very soon after the Metro Arena event, CroCop's return to the U.K. may be just what he needs to put his current losing streak to rest, but taking into account the fact that a third of all his Mixed Martial Arts losses took place in England first to Gabriel Gonzaga with a devastating head kick and then via decision to Cheick Kongo, the U.K. may not be one of his favourite places to be of late.

The interview also put to bed the rumours that he planned to end his career:

"I did think of it the night after my last defeat, but I'm not going to end my career soon. I will have 5 or 6 fights at least. Maybe even more, who can tell. Every fight could be your last one. You can suffer from a fatal injury, you can break your leg or arm. If I'll be able to fight I'll fight, it's my life and my choice and I enjoy doing it.
I have a very strong motive, especially because of number of "wise" Internet users saying that I'm done. I will prove they were wrong........
                                                 .........I'll be back (smiling)."

Sherk's Postponed Appeal.......Postponed!!
Written by Rob Curry
UFC Leightweight Champ Sean Sherk has again had his CSAC (California State Athletic Commission) hearing postponed, until December 4th due to administration problems, it seems that the CSAC are unable to schedule the diaries of the people needed at the hearing and therefore may have to postpone the November 13th hearing till the December date.

Sherk tested positive for banned substance Nandrolone earlier in July at UFC 73: Stacked and has been waiting ever since to potentially clear his name.

UFC President Dana White announced earlier this week that due to the way this hearing has been handled, he is not willing to remove the title from Sherk regardless of the outcome, and the winner of the Interim Title match up between BJ Penn and Joe Stevenson at UFC 80 will face Sherk at some point next year.

BJ Penn: "If he did win the belt by cheating, that's ridiculous,"
Written by Rob Curry
Speaking to hawiian newspaper The Honolulu Advertiser BJ Penn has spoken of how he only wants to face Sean Sherk if he has been cleared of current Steroid use charges:

"I was told four different times that it was going to be on with Sherk, and it got pushed back every time," Penn said. "I'm just happy they set something else up. I was getting tired of waiting."

Penn said he would still like to fight Sherk, but only if Sherk is cleared of the steroids charge.

"If he did win the belt by cheating, that's ridiculous," Penn said. "But he's the one who has to live with it."

Penn also joked that his bout with Stevenson would be for the "natural" lightweight championship.

"Just like bodybuilding," Penn said. "If guys are cheating, maybe there should be two divisions."

Athletes Come From Far And Wide For IFL Draft 2008 In New York
Written by IFL
MAMARONECK, N.Y., October 20, 2007 -- Nearly 150 mixed martial athletes residing in 20 U.S. states – hailing from at least 10 other countries – came to the L.A. Boxing gym in Mamaroneck, N.Y. today, looking for spots on International Fight League teams at the IFL 2008 Draft.

It’s likely that none of those had a more rewarding trip to the New York suburb than Levon Maynard, a civilian Air Force computer technician who drove all night from Norfolk, Va., sleeping in his car before standing out among the more than 30 welterweights with an impressive showing in all phases that earned him a spot among the pool of 18 athletes selected by the coaches.
